About research

In the Unit of Medical Mycology, the susceptibility pattern, and the phenotypic and molecular characterization of frequent fungal pathogens in Costa Rica are studied. The following projects have been done with the aim to provide solutions for the management of fungal infections:

Itraconazole susceptibility of Sporothrix schenckii sensu stricto and S. globosa Costarrican clinical isolates.

In vitro susceptibility to fluconazol of Cryptococcus neoformans var grubii clinical isolates in Costa Rica.

Molecular identification of Costarrican clinical isolates of the complex Cryptococcus neoformans/C. gattii.Fluconazole susceptibility to Trichophyton rubrum from skin and its appendages.

Restriction Fragment Length Polymorphism determination of Candida sp. isolated from blood cultures.

Antifungal susceptibiltiy of Candida isolated from blood cultures.

Susceptibility to azoles of vaginal yeasts isolated from sexual workers.
