Medical Bacteriology

History

The Medical Bacteriology Section has as main lines of research the study of the intracellular bacterial pathogens Brucella and Bartonella, as well as the phytopathogen Xylella fastidiosa. The main interest is related to bacterial pathogenesis, understanding different strategies and mechanisms used by these pathogens to successfully interact with their respective hosts and cause infection. To this end, an integral approach is carried out, including epidemiological studies, studies of phenotypic and genotypic characterization of the different circulating strains, interaction studies with the host in ex vivo and in vitro models, development and improvement of mitigation strategies.
