Vector Research Laboratory

History

At Vector Research Laboratory (LIVE acronym in Spanish), projects are developed on arthropod vectors and the diseases transmitted by them, mainly mosquitoes, the epidemiology of arboviruses, and rickettsiae and their vectors (ticks, fleas). Recent projects address issues such as resistance to insecticides in Aedes aegypti, ecology of Ae. albopictus and its role as vector of dengue, Zika and chikungunya, identification of vectors of zoonotic arboviruses, ecology of Rickettsia felis and Rickettsia asembonensis, characterization of rickettsiae in ticks and molecular identification of ticks, fleas and mosquitoes by means of DNA barcodes ("DNA barcoding"). Due to the nature of the topics studied, the research group has experience in several disciplines (microbiology, biology, epidemiology, biotechnology, molecular biology, veterinary medicine, medical entomology) and the projects are carried out in collaboration with different entities and institutions inside and outside the country.
